New running book Born to Run. Chris McDougall, a writer at large for Runner’s World and an Ultramarathoner, has a new book out about running. What sets his book apart from all the rest out there is a unique story about the best (and most reclusive) Ultrarunners in the world, how he came to compete with them, in a 50 mile race, on their terrain - the almost impenetrable Barrancas del Cobre, Mexico’s Copper canyons – and the way it transformed not only his running but his whole outlook on the reason we are inspired to run. Chris had heard the tales about the Tarahumara, a tribe of Mexican Indians who are reputed to be the best distance runners in the world. In 1993 one of them won a prestigious 100-mile race wearing a toga and sandals – and he was fifty-seven years old. So he set out to find them, and to discover their secrets, during the search he encountered some remarkable characters from the world of Ultra Trail Running, and by the end of it had transformed himself from a guy who struggled to run a few miles without getting injured into a proper Ultrarunner. He also discovered that contrary to what your doctor might say, humans are made for Ultrarunning.

latest Croft 6 day Challenge
Sharon Gayter has pulled out of her world record attempt at the 6 day record. The 6 day event is the first to take place in the UK since 1984 and had attracted a small field or runners. Sharon pulled out on day 3 with a stress injury to her shin after covering 140 miles up to the end of the second day.

100km Association member attempt the 6 day record

9th February:
It has been 25 years since the last six day race took place in the UK and Sharon Gayter began a quest to set a new record at the Crofts race track in Darlington.
Sharon states:
"My schedule is a punishing one, the target is a new British Record and then push on for an attempt at the World Record. 820km is around 510 miles and that means an average in excess of 85 miles (136km) a day. The schedule is set to cover over 100 miles on the first day and settle in around the 80 miles (130km) a day and pull this up to 90 miles on the last day by running through the night without any sleep, planned sleep on other nights is for less than 4 hours."

The "French Ultra Festival" of Antibes, it is the ultramarathon on the French Riviera... the sport and the sea combined.
From 7 till 13 June 2009 in a magnificent place underneath the fortress Fort Carré dominating the harbour of Antibes, three races will be for the program, one 6 days, one 48:00 am and one 12:00 pm. These events are opened to the runners and to the walkers.
In Antibes, no need for a certain performance level to be able to participate, everyone arrives with different desires and hopes, each one on its level, each one with its challenge. It is important that this happens in a mood of conviviality, mutual assistance and discovery of all participants.
